Automatically Scroll Through a Long Web Page in Firefox

We previously wrote about an extension, called Readability, for Firefox (Improve the Reading and Printing of Web Pages in Firefox) that allows you to reformat web pages to remove all the extra junk and retain the formatting of the main text making it neater for printing. This extension also allows you to automatically scroll through a long web page automatically, without using the mouse or keyboard.
If you tend to read a lot of long web pages online more often than printing them, ScrollyFox may be the Firefox extension you want. It is a basic extension that scrolls the page down (and optionally up again) automatically at an adjustable rate.
NOTE: ScrollyFox may not work on every website you encounter, possibly due to the coding on the website.
Install ScrollyFox from
Click the Add to Firefox button on the web page to install ScrollyFox.

On the Software Installation dialog box, click the Install Now button.

Once the extension is installed the Add-ons dialog displays, asking you to restart Firefox to complete the installation. Click the Restart Firefox button.
Restarting Firefox
When Firefox restarts after installing an extension, the Add-ons dialog box automatically displays. If theScrollyFox extension is not highlighted, scroll and find the item, highlight it, and click the Options button.

NOTE: If the Add-ons dialog box is not open when Firefox starts, select Add-ons from the Tools menu and access the Options as mentioned above.
Selecting Add-ons from the Tools menu
The ScrollyFox Preferences dialog box displays. The default Scrolling speed is set at 50 and theReverse scroll direction at end of page? check box is enabled. To change the Scrolling speed, enter a new value or use the up and down arrows to select a speed. Click OK.

The ScrollyFox extension is disabled by default. The status bar button is faded. Basic help displays when you move your mouse over the ScrollyFox status bar button. You will notice that the ScrollyFox Preferences dialog box can also be accessed by right-clicking the status bar button.

Using the extension is as simple as left-clicking the status bar button to start and stop the scrolling.
This extension cannot be activated and deactivated using the keyboard. If you would rather use the keyboard than the status bar button, you may want to use the Readability extension (Improve the Reading and Printing of Web Pages in Firefox). However, if you don’t mind using the mouse to start and stop the scrolling, ScrollyFox is a simple and easy-to-use extension.
